Which means some peoples are getting free shoes!

Participation is easy, but if you are unsure, just ask yourself:

1. Do I take pictures of stuff while I’m doing stuff?
2. Do I share those pictures online sometimes / all the time / maybe too much?
3. Am I currently using the internet?

If you answered ‘yes’ or ‘hell yes’ to any or all of those questions, you can totally do this! If you answered ‘no’ to question #3, we are scientifically confused and will need to draft an immediate email to Neil deGrasse Tyson for clarification.

So how do you play along with this contest? Simple, just share a picture of your #CusheTime with us! #CusheTime is YOUR time - and it could be anything. A sunset on the beach, a couple of good friends and a bonfire, a photo from a concert… whatever it is that helps you find a little happiness - that’s your #CusheTime.

Post and tag your photo using the hashtag #CusheTime on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or upload it directly to our contest page.

One important thing to note - if any of your social accounts that you share this photo on are private, we can’t see your entry! That pretty much puts it on every ‘Best Surf Movies’ list ever. “Point Break”… not exactly a pure surfing movie, but popular and pretty damn quotable.

Who kinda didn’t want to be agent Johnny Utah?

Film still from "Step Into Liquid"

In no particular order, surf flicks we like are:

Step Into Liquid (2003)
Beautiful cinematography, some brave footage and riders, and a solid soundtrack. This film is so pretty, we’ve seen it being played with no sound, and it’s still engaging.

Riding Giants (2004)
Great stuff from director Stacy Peralta - the guy behind “Dogtown and Z-Boys”, and of course a famous surfer/skater in his own right. “Riding Giants” goes from talking surf origins, to profiling the biggest waves, and the biggest personalities that go after them.

Surfwise (2007)
Kind of a deeper watch – “Surfwise” tells the story of Dorian Paskowitz, his wife, and their 9 home-schooled and beach-raised kids. Literally. Paskowitz raised all of his kids in a small camper on the beach. Directed by Doug Pray, who also made a great DJing documentary called “Scratch”

The September Sessions (2002)
Directed by Jack Johnson (yep – the singer / surfer), this shorter film is a look at some big names simply getting into some good waves. It’s just an enjoyable watch. As you may imagine, solid music plays a part in this one as well.
Mon, 14 Jul 2014 16:56:00 GMT Cristian Merello Joins Cushe
So here is a thing that is awesome: superstar Chilean surfer Cristian Morello joins team Cushe as an international ambassador!

Morello has as many trophies as we do slippers, plus he's an all-around cool dude. A perfect addition to an already great squad.

Bonus science-y information: Winter in Chile is June to August. Also, on a synoptic scale, the most important factors that controls the climate in Chile are the Pacific Anticyclone, the southern circumpolar low pressure area, the cold Humboldt current, the Chilean Coast Range and the Andes Mountains. Despite Chile's narrowness, some interior regions may experience wide temperature oscillations and cities such as San Pedro de Atacama, may even experience a continental climate.

What just happened… we blacked out.
Thu, 10 Jul 2014 03:54:00 GMT June Playlist
Some jamz (the 'z' makes it more boss) we collected in June. In places with actual seasons, summer presents a whole load of opportunities to give your feet some much needed freedom from heavy socks and shoes.

Canvas is the word, and sans sock is the look.

If you are a Cushe Slipper fan, we have some good news that is about to make dropping the socks a bit easier on that front - the canvas Cushe Slipper is machine washable! More details on that coming soon.

That's all well and good, but what if you want to wear something that isn't the Cushe Slipper and keep the sock less look? What if you are worried about rubbing in all the wrong places - or rubbing someone the wrong way with some serious foot funk? Worry not, there is a solution: The loafer sock.

Some places call them 'no-show' socks as well, but keep an eye on the ankle rise. We've found that not all no-show sock options are equal. If you want to make sure nothing peeks out over your shoe, the better luck has been had with socks specifically made for loafers.

These babies have been our secret summer weapons for a few years now. They are the best of both worlds and so many people are making them now, that you'll have a lot of options in choosing what you like best. A quick use of the Googles will reveal the true power of the internet: sock shopping.

Also this cat in a sock.
Wed, 18 Jun 2014 02:41:00 GMT Welcome, Sierra!

It’s easy to like Sierra Quitiquit. Heck, it’s easy to LOVE Sierra Quitiquit. Not in a superficial sense, but for who she is, and what she’s all about. At Cushe, we’re always on the lookout for people who have a real passion for what they do – and the guts to chase that passion so far that it becomes a part of who they are. This is why we’re happy to announce Sierra as a new ambassador, and member of team Cushe!

How did she get here? We'll let her explain…

“I grew up in Park City, Utah, back when it was just a sleepy little ski town. My Dad had my three brothers and I on skis before we blew out the candles on the cakes for our second birthdays. Skiing was always the most important thing in our lives. I started competitive ski racing when I was about six or seven years old. I loved skiing fast, beating the boys and having as much fun as possible. It became my mantra for life. Those years taught me to be an aggressive athlete, while maintaining a deep appreciation for the amazing world surrounding me.

Now, traveling the world and skiing big lines on the most challenging mountains for a living is truly a dream come true. When I'm not on the slopes or modeling, I try to spend my time as a professional fun-seeker! Riding bikes, surfing, yoga, running, cooking, and traveling are my favorite things in the whole world. I hope to inspire young girls to realize their beauty not just through athletic achievement, but kindness, consciousness, and the pursuit of happiness.

-Sierra”

Follow the adventures of Sierra on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
Wed, 04 Jun 2014 16:12:00 GMT May Playlist
May is a mix of music for beaches, sunsets, a bucket of brews, and a fine selection of pals around the fire.

Pickwick - Hacienda Motel
Young & Sick - Glass
Claire - Horizon
The Family Crest - Love Don't Go
Jonquil - It's My Part
Dads - Boat Rich
Jukebox The Ghost - Oh, Emily
Bibio - Ambivalence Avenue
Damien Jurado - Silver Timothy
The Preatures - Is This How You Feel?
Thu, 29 May 2014 03:03:00 GMT Super Selfies with Super Frenchie
Important note: It's pretty critical that you do not try this at home, or frankly anywhere, unless you are a trained pro like Matthias. The Cushe crew has been around the block a few times when it comes to summertime music festivals – and like the Cosby Kids (google it), we’ve learned a thing or two. If you are lucky enough to score tickets to a fest near you – or even better, a destination fest, here are some laid-back tips to keep your experience extra Cushe.

Plan your own schedule – but go with the flow. Like any boxing match, the best plans go out the window as soon as you get punched in the face. DO NOT get punched in the face. DO make a loose plan, but be ready to change it up if the mood strikes, or the situation calls for it. Weird stuff happens in between stages, and sometimes, it’s better than the band.

Keep your phone battery from dying… by keeping your phone in your pocket. Seriously though, no matter how good the resolution is on your phone, real life is WAY more HD. Plus, you’ve probably annoyed your friends leading up to the festival with posts about the festival. Enjoy before documentation.

Comfy shoes. Duh. This is a given – but bonus if those shoes are also fairly easy to wash and / or look good with a little life on ‘em. It's important that you don't worry about any of your clothing while at a festival - shoes included. At some point, someone will spill something on you. Hopefully just a beer. We roll with the Cushe Slipper since it's easy to wash and easy to wear.

Check out some artists you don’t know – ‘cause at one point, you didn’t know Vampire Weekend, or The Black Keys, or Prince. Wait… everyone now is just born with knowledge of who Prince is, right? Anyway, those artists in the smaller print on the festival poster are good too, so leave with someone new to tell your friends about.

Laters!
<3 Cushe

Wed, 14 May 2014 02:51:00 GMT April Playlist
As Biz Markie said, "It's Spring Again!". We like days without plans. When things go wrong, we roll with it. We support everyone's right to pursue happiness - especially around the holidays. Lately though, there have been a few things that have really not settled right with us about these days that we celebrate. It's time to get it out there. Here are 3 things we can't get down with this time of year:

1. "New" holiday music - This may have started with Kenneth Bruce Gorelick, aka Kenny G… and it should have ended with Kenneth. Thanks to this adult contemporary / smooth jazz saxophonist, we’re stuck listening to remakes of classic tunes that never needed remaking. We hope Kenny G’s stocking is full of coal. Every. Single. Year.

2. Ugly sweater parties - Let’s be clear – this WAS a good idea when it started. It challenged the attendees to thrift a truly heinous knitted creation to debut at an annual holiday party. Now, it’s an industry. There are scores of websites that make it WAY too easy to score your next ugly sweater. In fact, you can even customize them. This newer tradition has lost its way. We’ll consider removing it from the list if it can get back on point.

3. Krampus - OK. Christmas has been happening our entire lives, and we’re just learning about Krampus, the dark companion of St. Nicholas? What the actual #&$%!? This thing is terrifying! Why does this exist at such a joyous time of year? What does the Naughty List not cover that we need an actual Christmas devil for? What do people do to get on the damn Krampus list!? Krampus is a serious holiday bummer – and we would like it if he were struck from the record all together.

We’re off to sharpen candy canes like prison shivs, just in case Krampus decides to crash our holiday party / is a real thing.

On that note - have a laid-back holiday from all your pals at Cushe!

Mon, 23 Dec 2013 05:20:00 GMT Matthias vs. China
The 1200 foot high Balinghe Bridge in the Guizhou Province of China? As you can imagine, we do things a little differently. First, our models were our ambassadors Sophie, Mitch, and Matthias. Second, our drinking pals for the weekend were also Sophie, Mitch, and Matthias. Third.... what?

Anyway, we grabbed a few photos from the upcoming line to share with y'all! Enjoy!

Thu, 21 Nov 2013 17:20:00 GMT Banff is Awesome
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is awesome for a number of obvious reasons. Days upon days of action sports and lifestyle films, books, and presentations by some of the coolest people in the world... well that's just our jam. You know what else is our jam? The stuff in this swag bag.

Kick ass coffee and a "HUBBA HUBBA" trucker. Score. Also - this map contains the best street names of ALL TIME. Next year, we'll take our meetings at the intersection of Bear, Lynx, and Caribou streets.

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 05:33:00 GMT Cushe at Banff Mountain Film Festival

“Nine days you won’t want to miss.”

That’s what the team at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival say, and the team at Cushe agreed, so we’re sponsoring. How can we pass up an amazingly diverse selection of the best in mountain film, books, and astonishing guest speakers? This is so much of what surrounds what we’re all about – Cushe Time. Plus, we have a secret plan to steal a year’s supply of Kicking Horse Coffee while we’re on site… but let’s keep that between us.

If you work at Kicking Horse Coffee, please ignore that last part. Moving on.

From October 26 to November 3, we’ll be hanging out with our partners in crime at Cushe Canada in Banff, Alberta, taking in the festival and spreading the joy of a good slice of the Cushe Life. Can. Not. Wait.

BMFF (we’re tired of typing the whole thing out) receives about 300 film submissions each year, and a committee selects the top 60 or so for the final cut of the festival. These films come in from all over the world, and cover just about every aspect of mountain and action sports culture.

Can’t make it to Banff for this? Bummer, but not the end of the world. BMFF goes on tour – hitting somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 cities in 20 countries. They take their favorite 25 films with them, and program screenings that really fit in with each city they visit. Super effing cool.

That’s the long and the short of it. We’re looking forward to hanging with our Canadian Cushe friends, and making some new ones in Alberta, and on tour.

See the full tour schedule here.

Off to plan the rest of our coffee heist…

Sun, 13 Oct 2013 14:06:00 GMT A Weekend in Portland
We love Portland. Not just because of the famed documentary series "Portlandia", but because we love bikes, coffee, boutiques, and beer. Wind and rain? Not huge fans, but it is a give and get world. Here is what made us smile in the City of Roses this weekend:

1. Beard Beer. Sounds gross, 'cause it kind of is... but if you can get past the fact that the yeast used in this batch was grown from yeast found in the brewer's beard, it's a damn fine pint. Check it our at Rogue Brewing.

2. Table sharing. In smaller restaurants, limited seating can mean LONG wait times. A few spots we encountered this weekend sat small parties with each other, which ends up getting you seated faster, and it introduces you to new people. More places should get down with this.

3. Monkeys. The Oregon Zoo is just west of downtown Portland, and it's awesome. Not far from the zoo, and in the same gigantic park system, you can take a spin through the Japanese Gardens and reflect upon the monkeys you just saw.

Sun, 29 Sep 2013 23:31:00 GMT Matthias at Google
Check out Matthias Giraud in conversation with Super Size Me star/director Morgan Spurlock at the recent Google Zeitgeist event.

Sun, 22 Sep 2013 01:23:00 GMT Pumpkin ALL THE THINGS!
Fall is fast approaching, friends. We love the thought of the endless summer at Cushe HQ, but we also love boots, cool nights for beach bonfires, and a solid flannel - which means we're good with fall. In fact, we dig it. Bigtime.

You know what else we dig? Pumpkin stuff. Not ALL pumpkin stuff, mind you - because Pumpkin Pie Spice Pringles exists... and no one should get on board with that. Here are three things we love pumpkin'd up.

1. Pie. Duh. You knew this was coming, but seriously, do you know someone who doesn't like pumpkin pie? No, you don't. Because you unfriended them long ago.

2. Donuts, or doughnuts if you're fancy. Pumpkin spice donuts are pretty much keeping the donut industry alive. That's kind of a strong statement, but no one around the office knew anything about the donut industry.

3. Beer. GLORIOUS BEER! Pumpkin beer comes in many varieties. Some good, some not so good, but many worthy of a taste. Every year, more and more micro and macro brewers are releasing pumpkin inspired beers. If you live in a hardcore beer state like California, Oregon, Colorado, or Michigan - the choices can be overwhelming. This is why we've basically bookmarked Beer Advocate's top 50 list... and taken a lot of personal days.

Bonus: for even more insane detail and nerdy pumpkin beer analysis, we found The Great Pumpkin Beer Review - a blog dedicated to the fall brew.

We're off to do more research.

Later gators.

Sun, 15 Sep 2013 10:19:00 GMT Shoe Science: Deodorize!
So... we endorse and love wearing many of your favorite Cushe shoes sans-sock - especially the Slipper. A lot of people are tossing them on after a bike ride, to run a quick errand, or to venture out to the beach. Some serious no-sock sitch's. Heavy usage like this comes with a potential price though: shoes that smell like you haven't been wearing socks.

Thankfully though, there are solutions. Double thankfully, there is also the internet, so finding these solutions was pretty easy. Which left plenty of time to watch cat gifs and the Robocop trailer.

The first trick that sounded interesting, and maybe plausible because it involved science, was freezing. The process is super simple:

1. Place your shoes in a freezer bag. Be sure to allow for extra time and swearing if you have small freezer bags / shoes larger than a men's size 8. If you have a size 11 or above shoe, you should probably warn the neighbors. We went with the crisscross method. Mostly because it was the only way these shoes were going to fit in the bag.

2. Place the bagged shoes in the freezer. It's best if you offer no warning or explanation to anyone living in your house as to why there are shoes in the freezer. In fact, label the bag "Fresh Fish" or "2013 Blueberries".

3. Pour yourself a drink, because you just crammed shoes in a bag and stuck 'em in the freezer. Then leave the shoes in the freezer overnight. Science says that the freezing temperatures kill the bacteria that cause odor.

4. Wake up and eat a healthy breakfast (optional, but recommended), remove the shoes from the freezer, take them out of the bag, and let them thaw naturally. We don't have a picture of this part because honestly, it didn't look as cool as we were hoping - frozen in blocks of ice, cartoon style.

So far, so good with this method. It didn't really seem to kill off the smell entirely, but it did bring it down to an acceptable level. There are a lot of shoes hanging around the office, so we'll probably run a few more methods to see if we can get some better results, but if you have any secrets to battling shoe odor that would terrify and shock your mother, share 'em over on our Facebook page!
Sun, 08 Sep 2013 15:05:00 GMT Road Trippin'

Summer weekends are the perfect opportunity to make a mini escape from the workweek. It doesn’t matter where you are located; chances are you have a fresh destination within a few hours drive. We have a few pointers to make your next blacktop adventure a little more memorable… maybe even challenging.

Pick a spot you’ve never been, or take a road you’ve never travelled. Road trips are all about discovery – taking the same path to the same end point… kind of missing the point.

Keep the tech to a minimum. Ditch the GPS, and keep the phone in your pocket. Use a paper map - available at any gas station next to some amazing sunglasses and a selection of camo trucker hats. Actual trucker hats. Your dad and grandpa will be proud.

Music. Is. Key. Keeping with the minimal tech concept, make mix CDs or dare we say… tapes? Last weekend’s trip for us included tracks from Disclosure, Bastille, and Geographer. Protip: Always have Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” ready to go if you need to infuse some energy into the drive. It never fails.

Take detours. The point is to discover something fun. World’s Largest Ball of Twine an hour off the highway? Scenic overlook on the next exit? Take a quick side adventure. Sometimes the little things turn into the biggest memories.

Taking off solo? Cool. Bringing some friends? Double cool. Pick your team wisely though. If you have a friend who needs an itinerary for Saturday morning breakfast, they might night be on the spontaneity A-Team. We're planning a few more weekenders before summer comes to a close - where are you heading?

Sun, 25 Aug 2013 22:54:00 GMT The Kids Are Alright

Since we’re about to unleash the Cushe Slipper for kids, we’ve been having a lot of discussion around Cushe HQ about the best part of being a kid. "The Top 56 Photos of Cats in Sinks", "23 of the Best Ways to Wear Jorts in Winter", "34 Clouds that Look Like Sharks Juggling Chainsaws"... all fantastic. Here are three very real, very awesome lists we're digging:

The Most Beautiful Outdoor (music) Venues in America

The Best Craft Beer Tap Handles in America

The Best Iconic American Road Trips
Thu, 25 Jul 2013 21:52:00 GMT 3 Songs on Repeat: Poolside Edition
OK - full disclosure, this post is built on lies. We were totally listening to more than three songs this past weekend, but "186 Songs in a Playlist" was just going to end up being too long of an update. You don't wanna read it, and we don't wanna write it. Besides, three is a fun number, a magic number, and it's a challenge to pick just three songs that encapsulate the vibe of a day. By the way, this weekend, we had no luck in making it to the beach, but we did make it to a pool. So here are three jams that helped create a daytime disco while we were kicking back in some Cushe Time next to the diving board.

Mon, 15 Jul 2013 17:51:00 GMT AMERICA DAY!

Happy 4th from everyone at team Cushe - including Matthias and his amazing America pants! Grilling, canned beverages from assorted coolers, and rooftop parties with friends make this one of our favorite holidays.

We do need to talk about something serious for a moment though: What the hell is the deal with the snake "fireworks"? Those little black discs that, when ignited, will basically just make a debris pile. That's the best case scenario... assuming you could get them to light. Not a very awesome way to celebrate anything. Unless you just bought a shop vac. So anyway - if your job at the BBQ is to bring some fireworks, skip the snakes, and at least step up to some of those crazy-long sparklers.

Have fun - love y'all!
Thu, 04 Jul 2013 00:22:00 GMT The Cushe x Hoffman Collaboration
We don't often get super excited…

…which is a total lie, as we are typically super excited about something... but this is big.

We're really proud to announce that we are pairing up with the legendary Hoffman California Fabrics for an exclusive line in our spring / summer 2014 collection! In case you don't know, which, totally NBD since you have about a billion things to know in your world, Hoffman has been famously creating authentic Hawaiian and Balinese prints that have helped define beach culture since 1924. Awesome. Still going strong today; double up on the awesome.

In the 1950's, Walter and Philip, sons of founder Rube Hoffman, joined the company. This is pretty rad since both of these guys were champion surfers during the golden age of the SoCal scene, and basically invented the Cushe Life. So... what we're trying to say is, Hoffman is pretty damn legit, and we're stoked and honored to be working with them.

The team at Hoffman creates nearly 800 beautifully unique patterns a year, and they are masters at capturing that Aloha spirit. This made our job tough, because we could only select a few from the current and archive designs made available to the Cushe design crew. We grabbed some amazing heritage screen prints, and some wildly unpredictable Bali Batiks that created the right vibe and compliment to our upcoming designs.

Check out an itty bitty sneak peek below, and stay tuned for more looks into the line. We've got a while to wait before we can get these designs in your hands, so we'll keep you properly hydrated with fresh knowledge right here, and over on the book of faces.

Wed, 26 Jun 2013 04:15:00 GMT Tell Dad He's Still Cool

After trolling numerous pages of the Dads are the Original Hipsters tumblr (prepare to lose a few hours if you click on that link), we felt it would be wrong to just get dad another combination of tie / shirt / golf balls this year. Your dad was cool once, and he still is... just maybe in a different way... and he deserves a gift that reflects that. Here are a few untraditional Father's Day gift ideas. Perfectly paired with some new Cushe sandals. Just sayin'.

Only to be worn ironically, this "#1 Dad" trucker hat is an instant classic. Purchase if your dad is a 28" waist and wears fitted flannel shirts, sans undershirt, with rolled-up sleeves. He'll know how to wear this, and look damn good doing it. Search Zazzle if you don't feel like thrifting for this one. The cheaper, the better.

Dads are the undisputed kings of facial hair. They've been wearing beards and mustaches for years because they are awesome, not because of trends. Dad gets it, so get dad some sweet facial hair product. Man's Face Stuff is made in Portland, which makes it 17% cooler by default. Find a photo of an olde tyme boxer like our friend John L. Sullivan here, and frame it. Keep it simple, as dad isn't about that ornate frame business. Perfect for the badass dad who enjoys steak for breakfast, and has some kind of den filled with stuff "you wouldn't understand".

Got a craft beer lovin' dad? The internets will deliver, directly to him, a selection of beer. Every month. There are of course, many to choose from, so do some recon and find our what dad likes.

Of course, the best gift you can give your dad is a hug, because it is the only day of the year that he wouldn't prefer a handshake.

<3 Cushe
Thu, 13 Jun 2013 05:44:00 GMT A Beautiful Reminder...
... that sometimes life requires you to just smile and enjoy. Dubbed "America's greatest cycling race" by a lot of dudes with excellent fitness, the Amgen Tour challenges riders across 750 miles of scenic California roadways. Why are we telling you about this? 3 reasons:

1. Who doesn't enjoy scenic California roadways? Jerks, that's who.
2. The 5-hour / Kenda team is awesome.
3. They kick back in Cushe when they aren't racing.

Anyway - the guys had a great showing at this year's Tour. The team placed 4th overall, posting a time just 00:13:24 off the lead team. Francisco Mancebo put forth a fantastic individual ride as well, finishing 7th overall, and just 00:04:52 off the lead.

Hats off, fellas; now go relax for a few days!

© Brian Black Hodes of VeloImages
Tue, 21 May 2013 06:18:00 GMT 3 Things We Love About Mom

This weekend is Mother’s Day, so because you can never tell her often enough, here are three things we love about mom.

1. Mom always supports what you do. Unless it’s dumb / you are definitely going to get hurt… then she’ll tell you. Which is like a two-fer. She’s supportive and honest when needed.

2. She was a badass, and she’s really good at playing it down. You think you can sneak in the house at 3am like a boss and mom doesn’t know ‘cause she’s not cool? Think again. Mom’s done that. After she pealed out on high school lawn. Welcome to busted town, bro.

3. The average American will spend $168.00 on Mother’s Day this year, but mom really just wants to hang out or get a call. And a card. Mom LOVES cards. Write a note in it too, or draw a picture for bonus points.

Also buy her this t-shirt:

Way to be awesome, mom.

<3 Cushe
Fri, 10 May 2013 04:38:00 GMT Not a Bad View for Mitch
During his exploration of the UK coastline for undiscovered and unsurfed territory, Mitch Corbett finds some mighty fine views. This is what Cushe Time is all about. A time to reflect, savor a moment, and put a smile on your face thinking about the next one.

Fri, 03 May 2013 08:32:00 GMT Golf vs Disc Golf
Eric McCabe has skills in both golf (or, ball golf, if you will) and disc golf. Her third 1st place finish in a row on the tour. We’re not always the best at maths, but if you carry the one, that ads up to awesome. One more good finish at Gwithian, and we’ll be talking about a champion here.

We did say Student Surf Tour, which means Sophie is rocking the waves while earning her degree in events management at the University of Plymouth. Seems like she’s managing events just fine already!

C: Tell us about how you were introduced to surfing. Was it through friends or family?
S: My older sisters and dad both surfed, so it was only natural for me to join in. Dad taught me when I was about 13, and I dreamed of being as good as my big sister!

C: What made you stick with it (surfing)?
S: I couldn’t NOT stick with it! It’s love… passion… it’s just about everything I need. It can be hard to endure sometimes in icy cold conditions when the waves suck, but I rarely have a surf that I regret getting wet!

C: What do you love about being on the water?
S: Just the way it can alter my mood. It can calm me down or excite me; make me relaxed or hyper!

C: Top three surf spots?
S: Soup Bowl, Barbados; Lakey Peak, Indonesia; Lynmouth, Devon UK.

C: OK, time for the lightning round:
Favorite movie / coast / condiment / casual adult beverage / domesticated animal / 80's song? We'll reveal your score later. What’s been the best place you’ve traveled so far?
S: Costa Rica with Cushe last year was epic! We did a nine hour road trip into the jungle in a four wheel drive, found some pumping empty waves, and stayed in a huge house right on the point.

C: Sounds pretty epic indeed! Would you live there, or is there somewhere else you’d like to call home for a bit?
S: Southwest France. Near home but better waves and climates!

C: Three things you want(ed) to be when you grow up?
S: Peter Pan, my big sister Laura, and happy!

C: Those are three great things! We always wanted to be excellent at segues. What’s rocking your iPod right now?
S: Naked and Famous

C: What big plans do you have this year… and or for dinner?
S: Graduate from uni (fingers crossed, got 10,000 words to write after this interview!), and travel, travel, travel.
Dinner, currently sat in front of an open fire in Scotland drinking a glass of red looking at the snow covered mountains and beautiful loch, and my sister is cooking us up a pasta Bolognese!

Tue, 26 Mar 2013 02:33:00 GMT Barry -Roubaix Race
We'll be sponsoring and hanging out at the Barry-Roubaix Killer Gravel Road Race on Saturday, March 23rd. Which contains roads, some gravel, a lot of racing, and a few killers. Maybe. For sure it'll be fun, of course because we'll be there, but also because 4000 other people will too. They'll be riding and cheering on fellow competitors in the small town of Hastings, Michigan. There will also be beer, which, according to science, has been linked to fun. Those 4000 people can stop by our booth for a smile, potentially a hi-five (potentially = definitely), and maybe a bit of swag. But not in the middle of the race if they care about posting a good time.

Check out a photo from last year. More importantly, check out that dude in the center wearing orange. Whatchu lookin' at, fella? Orange guy - if you are reading this, please stop by our booth and offer up an explaination. We're very understanding.

Thu, 21 Mar 2013 08:20:00 GMT This.

Find some Cushe Time this weekend. That is all.
Fri, 15 Mar 2013 07:24:00 GMT Empire of the Sun Returns!
The Australian duo behind the amazing 2008 release Walking on a Dream, and possibly one of the most mind-blowing, Bowie-tastic album covers ever (pictured below), have returned!

Almost.

Empire of the Sun has released an epic album trailer directed by... JJ Abrams!? Crazy. Maybe he's a fan. Anyway, Walking on a Dream has been one of our JAMS since it came out, so we're excited to see these guys back at it. They'll also be hitting the road in May, so if you are a fan, look to catch them live this summer.

Check out the trailer and tour dates over on Pitchfork.

Tue, 12 Mar 2013 01:15:00 GMT Shumakers Casual
The first of our Shumakers collection have started hitting stores, so we thought it would be an excellent use of your work time to peep some drool-worthy photos. The full grain leather used on these has amazing character, and the sole is, in a (naughty) word, badass. Even though we are clearly MASTER photographers, this shoe looks even better in person. Also better on feet. Look for more colors soon, and the LTD later this year.

Tue, 26 Feb 2013 06:35:00 GMT It's True...
We do love you guys and gals. More than comfortable shoes. Have a great V-Day! <3 Cushe

Thu, 14 Feb 2013 07:06:00 GMT Dude Bowl Ads
The average NFL game contains just south of 11 minutes of action. The rest is mostly replays, analysis of replays, and analysis of the replay analysis. Also close-up shots of butts in spandex. This leaves plenty of time for advertising, and in a game like the Dude Bowl (not sure we can legally use its proper name), ads are kind of a big deal.

We of course didn't advertise during the Dude Bowl because we'd rather spend $4 million smackers on making awesome shoes for you. This is how much we care about you. We also don't have $4 million dollars.

Here are some that made us EL-OH-EL.

1. Amy Poehler is one of the most hilarious people in the world, so this one was kinda auto.

2. Dikembe Mutombo blocking stuff, laughing, and running out of rooms. 'Nuff said.

3. We like both parts of the Oreo, and a good fight in a library. It's almost as if this spot was made for us.

4. Anything featuring our favorite Electric Guest song and a rediculous afro / mustache combo is a winner.

Sun, 03 Feb 2013 19:30:00 GMT 3 Things We Like About the Cold
So, the weather in the Midwest can only be described as Hoth-like at the moment. Walking out into the wind is what we imagine getting hit in the face with a bag of frozen pennies feels like. We're a glass half full bunch over here though, so here are three things we actually like about the cold.

1. Scarves. We've said it before, and we'll say it again; next to boots, scarves are our favorite winter accessory. Like The Dude's rug, they can really tie a look together.

2. Hot chocolate. Pretty much any kind will do, but there is a ridiculous amount of luxury class hot chocolates out there worth sipping. Sea Salt is on our list to try.

3. Wool socks. The ninja of foot warmth. Silent, unseen, effective... and potentially deadly if you do not wash them.

Thu, 24 Jan 2013 07:00:00 GMT Inside the Shoe Lab
Ever wonder where we get that delightful scent of leather, canvas, and natural rubber blends? It's not the hottest new fragrance you can buy, but a musk one can only acquire from spending time in our shoe lab. Ok, ok, lab is a little bit of a reach since we don't actually construct our ultra comfortable designs in this room, but it sounds better than Shoe Hole. We do cook up product names, play around with potential styling, and drink oddly concocted smoothies in here though, so it's a lab of sorts.

We'll close our word holes now, so you can take a look at the pictures. Plenty of upcoming styles featured here, which shall remain nameless until it's time to talk about them. Go ahead and get your shoe lust on though, because everything you see here is coming out in 2013.

Thu, 17 Jan 2013 04:43:00 GMT 2013 is NOT the Worst
Our friends at Moosejaw Mountaineering just proclaimed that 2013 is going to suck. We’d like to respectfully disagree, and help turn their frown upside down.

1. Nothing like a looming deadline to make things happen. Plus, we’re certain ill planned and last minute neck tats create the best memories. Or at least conversation starters. We recommend a Kermit the Frog playing a flying V guitar.
2. The cools will be off of 13’s action in no time. Plus, now you can say “I liked 13 before it was touring big venues.”
3. This sounds like a more efficient way of sending her cookie requests.
4. Now you have 3 dance partners, 4 comfortable places to sleep, and 2 friends that can’t eat cheeseburgers for the next few weeks. You can. That’s what we call a win.
5. Even doomsdays need a rebuilding year. Something will come up, don’t give up on the end of the world yet.
6. Switch to rice. You can literally have thousands of them for dinner.
7. Waffles are superior to pancakes as they have syrup compartments built in. However, you can put bacon into pancakes… like, right IN the pancake. Now you have a reason to make pancakes again.
8. You are so much more than a number to us. Know this.
9. Look, space is crazy, and that is just something we have to deal with. The interior of the sun is 15,000,000 degrees Celsius. Sometimes it’s just gotta flare.
10. This is a great excuse to get out of manual labor. Them: “Hey can you help me move this weekend?” You: “Sorry, I don’t have health insurance. Can’t risk it.”
11. Call it a hunch, but we’re sure the government will come up with something new you can complain about this year. Probably more than one thing actually.
12. Isn’t your dentist the same person that stabs your gums with little metal hooks twice a year? We don’t actually have a positive response to this one.
13. Yeah, but it will be marginally better than last years model. If you wanted, you could really show the cools and get a flip phone. Being an early dropper is the new early adopter.

See? Buck up, Moosejaw. 2013 is gonna be just fine.

Can we have a t-shirt now?
Wed, 02 Jan 2013 05:47:00 GMT 3 Things to do With Your Shipping Savings
So you saved some cash with our free shipping. Not only are you smart (and good looking), but you are either incredibly generous because you are giving the gift of Cushe, or you are about to add a(nother) pair of Cushes to your personal footwear arsenal. This is just one of the many reasons we like you.

However, there is a problem... What to do with that extra cash from the shipping you didn’t just pay for. Here are three things we might do if we had a little foldin’ money in our pockets.

Buy socks. Now, we know this is traditionally a holiday gift you have to grin and bare, but hear us out. Many of our shoes look extra awesome when worn sock free. That isn’t always an option for all of us – so when the sitch calls for socks, we like to still look like we’re without. The tropical Republic of Banana has some great no-show socks that aren’t see-through thin.

See a show. Unless you were shipping somewhere exotic, we’re not talking about an arena band. Go to your local venue and see a rising act. Aside from being a great way to discover some new music, it’ll give you that indie cred of being able to say “I saw them when…”. This past year we’ve been lucky enough to see some great performances from Little Hurricane, GRiZ, Say Anything, and Japandroids; all in small venues for less than 15 smackers.

Pick up a macro lens for your phone. The best camera is the one you always have with you, and for most of us, that means our mobile phone. Photojojo has some unique photographer gifts and gadgets in general, but this Macro Cell Lens Band is amazing looking. Plus you can just wear it when it’s not in use. Bonus.

If you haven’t taken advantage of our free shipping yet, you still have a few days! Get at it!

Mon, 17 Dec 2012 06:31:00 GMT The Art of Shred
Take a timeout today and set your peepers on this beautiful profile of Justin Bruursema, creator of Burly Surfboards. Justin / Burly are based not far from Cushe HQ in Western Michigan, so not only is he a local for us, but he also shapes boards and a surf scene in Michigan. That's right - there are surfers on the Great Lakes. Doing what you love and creating a culture in an unlikely place... that pretty much defines the Cushe Life.

The Art of Shred - Justin Bruursema / Burly Surfboards from Antix Media on Vimeo.

Mon, 03 Dec 2012 00:37:00 GMT Give Thanks for Thanksgiving
An open letter to retailers across the country:

What the hell man!? Can you please stop pretending Thanksgiving doesn’t happen? We’ve let you invent “holidays” over the years, so at least give us a few weeks before you set up the trees and twinkling lights.

Your friend and pumpkin pie aficionado,
Cushe

Seriously, we love all holidays, but let’s not blow past the awesomeness that is Thanksgiving. Slow down and put your Bing Crosby CDs away. Don’t unpack the porcelain snowman, and don’t fill it with those weird pinwheel candies that we assume are mint because no one has actually ever eaten one. It’s not time yet.

This week, enjoy a turkey, a turducken, or a tofurkey if that’s your thing. Enjoy an artisan apple-orange cranberry sauce, or the magically delicious canned cranberry sauce that retains a perfect can shape for convenience of slicing and serving. Most of all, enjoy the company of good friends and family… and the subsequent napping.

Also enjoy this 90’s Thanksgiving picture we found.

Mon, 19 Nov 2012 06:39:00 GMT Matthias Jumps at Moab
Check out another awesome GoPro video featuring Matthias Giraud and his custom Cushe boots in his latest BASE jump near Moab. Always looking for the best angle with his Hero cams, Matthias has one attached to his left shoe in this jump - giving us that signature worms-eye view of the action.

Fri, 02 Nov 2012 05:45:00 GMT Super Slater Bros.
It’s October – which can only mean two things here at Cushe HQ: we’re finalizing our Halloween costume (sexy shoe maker… duh) and we're looking forward to hanging with the Slater brothers at their invitational surf and skate comp next weekend!

For the past few years we’ve been proud to be a part of the Slater Brothers Invitational down in Cocoa Beach, FL. The three days of competition has always been great, and you can catch some of it on the live web stream when things kick off on October 27th. The entire event benefits the World Skin Cancer Foundation, which we can all get on board with.

If you are lucky enough to be in the area, or you’re heading to the competition, stop by and say hi to us. We’ll probably be passing out some swag, and we’re really good at putting sunscreen on your back.

Fri, 19 Oct 2012 05:24:00 GMT Never Enough Boots
We like fall and winter for a few reasons: the colorful change in seasons, friends and family around the holidays, hitting the hills after a fresh snowfall... all good stuff. Most importantly though, it's scarf and boot season. We don't make scarves, but we do make a lot of awesome boots!

David Lee Roth once told Henry Rollins (and we're paraphrasing here) that every ticket he sold to a show was a contract his band had with that person for a good experience. Why are we telling you this? Well, because it's awesome and strange that Rollins and Roth have a friendship. More importantly though, we feel that same way about our boots. Shoes too, but we're talking about boots today. We want to keep your feet warm and dry. We want you to not settle for salt stains. We want to keep you looking good, and feeling Cushe. Check out our full range of women’s boots here.
Tue, 09 Oct 2012 06:06:00 GMT Custom Cushe Slippers
This past weekend we brought Detroit artist Chris Freitag to the Wolverine Company Store in downtown Grand Rapids, MI to add a little graffiti flavor to some of our Cushe Slippers. Chris was taking custom orders from customers as well – making their Cushe shoes even more unique.

Why did we do this? Well, aside from our love of paint and marker fumes (don’t judge), it was the opening weekend of ArtPrize in GR. Read more about this awesome celebration of public art here. Peep more about graffiti on our Slips below.

Sun, 23 Sep 2012 19:16:00 GMT Gentlemen… Boot Up.
At our secret lair in the Midwest, we can feel the cool air starting to creep in. Fear not the falling leaves though, friends. We have a couple of silky smooth boots this season that will pair perfectly with your fall and winter wardrobe.

The Bespoke Slipper Chuka and the Evo Desert are a Cushe take on classic men’s style. Both boots are incredibly versatile, and cross between casual and a little more professional effortlessly. The grey and brown pictured above go with just about anything. We’ve got you covered with plenty of options though, in case you are feeling a little friskier.

Speaking of that wardrobe, we’ve picked out a few updated basics that are a great compliment to your new Cushe kicks. We dig this pair of J. Crew 484 Selvedge denim. They are somewhere in between slim and skinny – which is the place to be. I think we can all agree it’s time to stop painting our pants on… No matter what denim maker you prefer, go for the selvedge finish and let your Cushe Life wear them in for a totally unique and crazy comfortable fit.

A solid oxford shirt is another staple. It tends to adopt the look of the parts around it, so you can dress it up or down. We like pockets in our shirts. In fact, don’t trust a man without a shirt pocket… We’ve got a UNIQLO take pictured above, but you can find these nearly anywhere. Just make sure it sports a pocket if you ever want us to trust you.

If you are looking to grab a new jacket this season, check out Spiewak. These guys have been making outerwear since 1904, so we’re pretty sure they’ve got this on lock. The Barrow CPO Jacket in Charcoal is a great mix of cool and classic.

These are just some of our ideas. What do you rock with your Cushe boots? As always, let us know over on Facebook and Twitter. Post pictures of your Cushe style; you never know how we’ll thank you for sharing. Because sharing… is caring.

<3 Cushe
Wed, 12 Sep 2012 03:58:00 GMT Latest GoPro Video feat. Matthias
As one commenter said: "I want his life. Now." We agree. Matthias is a bad mofo, and so is this video featuring the Super Frenchie doing what he does best. Jumping from really tall stuff and living the Cushe Life.

Tue, 21 Aug 2012 01:48:00 GMT The Latest from Natty Perez
We love getting emails from Natty Perez. Not only is she an all around awesome girl who is part of the Cushe crew, Natty is a super hard worker. Since being sidelined with an injury for a solid month, she’s been back at it for the last 3 weeks with a tough schedule of 2 hours in the gym, and three hours on the surf. Every. Damn. Day.

Hard work pays off though. Natty finished the season as the #2 ranked woman surfer in PR, and she’s qualified to try out for the women’s world surfing team for 2013. Datswotsup.

She’s even featured in Mundo Rad! Magazine – check it out (Spanish skills required)

Did we mention she also sends us awesome photos like the one below? ‘Cause she does. And we like it.

Wed, 08 Aug 2012 02:24:00 GMT Custom Cushe Boots
When we started hanging out with Matthias Giraud at the beginning of this year, we thought to ourselves - this guy needs a custom Cushe... and another beer. We set out to design something that was both functional as a base boot, and reflected Matthias' personality (which is a secret blend of crazy, awesome, crazy-awesome, and proprietary spice).

We give you this one of a kind creation, perfect for the Super Frenchie himself. Check it out in action. You can't miss it.

Wed, 25 Jul 2012 07:36:00 GMT Pitchfork Day Three Recap
Well kiddos… we've packed our bags, passed out all of our Cushe sunglasses, and emptied our cooler of VitaCoco. Yes, the sun has set on the 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival. We've made so many great new friends this weekend, and finally connected with some old ones face to face.

We're in a glass case of emotion right now!

Looking back on the third and final day, we must say that The Men did some WORK on the Balance Stage. Fantastic live performance. Definitely check them out if you have the chance and love good rock and roll.

AraabMuzik did his thing on the MPC's and had an entire sea of music fans jumping. We snagged a couple of pictures during his performance, but they don't do him justice. The crowd might give you a better idea of how his set was.

To close it all out, we were treated to a great show from Vampire Weekend. During their performance, we also noticed a record breaking number of dudes in salmon colored short-shorts paired with braided belts. We kid cause we love.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see us and say hello at the booth. Our hands are stinging from all of the sonic high-fives, but it was worth it. We'll be seeing Pitchfork again for sure!
Sun, 15 Jul 2012 16:12:00 GMT Pitchfork Day Two Recap
There was a reoccurring chant by a few of the performers on day two: "&%#* the rain!". After an early afternoon drenching created a bit of a muddy mess and a LOT of wet music fans, the grounds dried out and the shows were incredible.

Flying Lotus dropped the dirty, filthy, don't-take-home-to-momma bass and pulled a huge reaction from the crowd.

Sleigh Bells was the stand out performer of the day for us. They came on and simply went off. We're almost certain our organs were rearranged when we were getting blasted by soundwaves while fighting for pictures. They were huge, and singer Alexis Krauss was all over the stage. It's safe to say we developed another crush...

Hot Chip provided the Saturday night dance party, and inspired a makeshift jump-rope circle.

We can't wait for Sunday's lineup! Don't forget to hit up our #cushelove giveaway on Facebook!
Sun, 15 Jul 2012 06:51:00 GMT Pitchfork Day One Recap
It wouldn't be a music festival if it weren't liquid magma hot or rainy. Luckily at Pitchfork in Chicago, we had both on day one. That's a good sign, right?

We can't do much complaining though when we're surrounded by so much amazing music. Day one blew us away, and one band we've talked about before really stood out: Japandroids. Maybe it was the rain breaking into sunshine during their second song, maybe it was crazy energy these guys jack into their set... whatever it was, we don't care because it was awesome. Japandroids rawkus performance had the crowd at the Balance stage going nuts. If you get a chance to catch these guys live - do it.

Also there was Feist. Ahhh Feist... swoon. We're in love and we don't care who knows!

And now we're off for day two! Don't forget to enter our #cushelove sweepstakes on Facebook - it's your chance to win $100 to spend at! We're also giving you chances to win on Twitter, so drop us a line there and use the hashtag #cushelove to enter! Everybody is a winner, especially us, because you are the best friends a shoe maker could ever have… oh god… we promised ourselves we wouldn’t cry…

<3 Cushe
Fri, 13 Jul 2012 09:57:00 GMT Amazing Pitchfork Performer
We're excited to see everyone at Pitchfork in just a few days, but this guy is just blowing our collective minds right now. Check out this video featuring AraabMuzik. Insane. Green Stage, 6:15 on Sunday. Maybe we'll see a Danny Brown cameo since the two of them just teamed up for the single "Molly Ringwald"?

If you have attention span problems, skip to 2:18.

Wed, 11 Jul 2012 01:38:00 GMT Pitchfork Bands to Watch
Pitchfork is just about a week away, and we've been listening to a LOT of music in preparation. Actually, we listen to a lot of music every week, so there really wasn't too much of a difference from the last few weeks to pretty much every week at Cushe HQ. Moving on.

We picked three videos from bands in the Pitchfork lineup that we are really looking forward to seeing: Japandroids, Hot Chip, and Beach House. Japandroids recently released their second full length album called Celebration Rock, and it is, in a word, awesome. Hot Chip is a go-to fun as hell band, and Beach House has the kind of laid back vibe you might expect to hear when you slip on your favorite pair of Cushes. Give 'em a listen and enjoy. Those reports can wait... we promise not to tell on you.

PROTIP: Do not rage at your desk in preparation for a music festival. It's a dead giveaway to the boss that you could probably be more productive.

Wed, 04 Jul 2012 14:57:00 GMT Cushe at Pitchfork Music Festival!
We are getting crazy-excited to hit Chicago in a few weeks (July 13-15) for the Pitchfork Music Festival! The three day event is not just a showcase of independent music’s finest bands and artists; it’s a collection of traditional artists, a record store, and a book store all in one place. An experience, one might say. That’s something the Cushe team can definitely get behind.

How, you may ask? Well, we’ll be there. So if you’re going to be there too, let’s hang out, high five over a few laughs, share some deep-dark secrets, become besties and pinkie-swear over something profound.

Aside from the Cushe tent being a place of good vibes, we’ll also be showing off some sandals with our buds at City Soles, keeping you hydrated with delicious Vita Coco, and hooking you up with some limited edition and completely awesome Cushe swag. We like to make sure you maintain bragging rights in your friend sphere. Fair warning: at least one member of team Cushe is a total Vita Coco fiend… you may have to enter Thunderdome to obtain any coconut water from this person.

The lineup is amazing, of course, with closing sets from Feist, Grimes, and Vampire Weekend – but it gets a lot deeper than that. We’ll be talking about some of the acts we’re excited to see over the next few weeks, and you can check out the full lineup right here.

Wed, 27 Jun 2012 23:48:00 GMT Flip Flop Day Giveaway
National Flip Flop Day is coming up, and here at Cushe, we want to free your feet! On June 15th we’ll have three $100 gift codes up for grabs on Twitter. How do you get your hands on one? That’s enough cheddar to cover any of our sandals – or even a few pair of our flip flops. Get your feet ready for freedom, and we’ll hear from you on the 15th!

Sun, 10 Jun 2012 22:02:00 GMT Sneak Peak & Free Shipping!
Earlier this week we had a little preview event at Cushe HQ – and our friends over at mLive came out to get the scoop. That’s still reporter-talk… right? Anyway, not only did they deliver the news on how awesome our shoes are doing (thanks to you, the badass fan base we have), they posted some photos of our upcoming product.

So click through, and enjoy a little preview of some of the things we’ve got coming for ya feets right here!

We’re also celebrating successfully NOT confusing Memorial and Labor Day this year by offering some hot, sweaty, free ground shipping action from our store. Just enter the code SUMMERSTYLE12 at checkout starting right now and all the way through Tuesday, May 29th. Do it. We won’t tell… unless you want us to?

That got a little weird, but we’re not sorry.

Have a great holiday weekend!

<3 Cushe
Fri, 25 May 2012 06:01:00 GMT Capital City Film Festival, Round 2
We’ve been a part of some pretty amazing events over the last few years. Pro surf invitationals all over the world, Sasquatch Music Festival, Treasure Island Music Festival, SXSW… we get around, and yes; we’re crafty and we’re always down.

It’s also really nice to support the up-and-coming events, especially when they are practically in our backyard. That’s exactly why we took a short trip down the road to the capital city of America’s High Five - Lansing, Michigan, for the second annual Capital City Film Festival.

The CCFF, which took place April 12-15, is an upstart festival that brings together movies, music, and ideas. This isn’t what you’d traditionally think of when you think film festival though. It’s much more rock n’ roll, and that is definitely reflected in the content they bring in during the four days.

Since we sponsored the music venue, the Cushe crew hit the road to spread the good word on awesome footwear, and to hear some amazing bands.

The kick-off was Michigan’s own Greensky Bluegrass, who really bend the genre of bluegrass when they dive into a jamming cover of the Beatles “Help”. Murder by Death (pictured above) put on an amazing Friday night show, and William Elliot Whitmore took us down the Americana road on Saturday night. Whitmore also had the most epic encore we’ve seen in a long time, which involved exiting the front of the stage, wielding a guitar, and a shot of whiskey (we’ll explain more over a beer sometime). The closing night was no slacker either, featuring a fantastic performance by LIGHTS, who is absolutely blowing up right now.

When it was all said and done, the festival boasted 72 films, a full day of fresh ideas shared by people who are WAY smarter than us featuring reps from Google and the New York Times, and four straight nights of top flight shows to close each day down.

Whew. Not a bad way to spend a weekend. We’re looking forward to seeing where the CCFF goes in the next few years.

<3 Cushe
Fri, 27 Apr 2012 06:24:00 GMT Cushe and KEXP at SXSW
Remember SXSW a few weeks ago? That was awesome.

We really enjoyed spending time hanging out with the KEXP team at Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop during SX, and we double enjoyed taking in amazing live performances from The Wedding Present, Shearwater, Nada Surf, Allen Stone and Imperial Teen just to name a few.

If you dig the ability to relive a little bit of the good times through the magical power of digital media, then heading over to KEXP’s website is gonna make your day! Clicking the SXSW Link on will automagically transport you to a land of exclusive photos, videos, and audio from the broadcast.

Go forth. Click. Share. Enjoy.

<3 Cushe
Thu, 29 Mar 2012 22:01:00 GMT SXSW Day One
What a great start to our time at SXSW. Along with our pals at Whole Earth Provision Company we hitched our trailer / photo booth / den of awesome (den sounds creepy until you add awesome) outside of Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop, and ominous clouds be damned, tons of cool people came to hang out. We handed out plenty of free (and rad) swag, hooked some lucky so-and-sos up with free kicks, and caught some amazing performances.

By who, you may ask? And we’ll answer with: The Barr Brothers, Allen Stone (blowing UP right now! Check ‘em!), and Of Monsters and Men.

Day two has a lot to live up to, but with all of the amazing performances and people in one town, we know it will. Don’t forget you can stream online from KEXP if you can’t make it to the shows… or Austin in general. We’re keeping you up to date as well on Twitter and Facebook, so stick with us, and we’ll show you the Cushe Life.

Wed, 14 Mar 2012 19:53:00 GMT Cushe at SXSW
We’re packing our bags for Austin, y’all, and we’re rolling in hot!

Not kidding. We will actually be rolling around the city with our buds from Whole Earth Provision Company – the mecca of cool stuff, who is now carrying your favorite Cushes. Whole Earth will be giving our custom trailer / photo booth a tow around town courtesy of their wrapped van, so come hang out and get your photo taken.

We only have two rules about the photo booth usage.
1. No “duck face”
2. See Rule #1

So, aside from taking an awesome photo which you can later use to rub in your friends faces about how you were at SXSW and they weren’t, we’ll also be giving some super bonus extra sweet swag out. Also some discounts on your next pair of Cushe shoes, and possibly – if you’re good – we’ll have a way for you to win free kicks. IF you’re good (refer back to Rule #1 if need be).

So, where can you connect with the Cushe and Whole Earth Provision Company crew? We’re glad you asked, because we really dislike hanging out alone, and while most of us are very pretty, we have enough personal portraits. Find us at these venues, and discover some amazing shows going on too:

3/14 – KEXP Concert Venue | Mellow Johnny’s
3/15 – Matchbox Showcase | Dirty Dog Venue
3/16 – KEXP Concert Venue | Mellow Johnny’s

In summation: Whole Earth Provision Company + Cushe = BFF’s, Photo booth, Amazing music with KEXP and the Matchbox Showcase, free stuff, grand times.

Got it? Good. See you there! Can’t be there? Bummer. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay in the know of what’s going on at SX and with Cushe.

<3, Cushe.
Mon, 05 Mar 2012 08:05:00 GMT Enter the Super Frenchie
Life adventurer extraordinaire Matthias Giraud, AKA Super Frenchie, is joining the Cushe team this year. We have two things to say about this:

1. Awesome. We love this guy and his attitude toward life. In so many ways, he IS Cushe.
2. We wish we could claim that we came up with the name Super Frenchie.

We're looking forward to seeing what Matthias has in store for us this year - in the meantime, check out the video below to see what he got up to in 2011.

Tue, 17 Jan 2012 23:08:00 GMT Cushe Stocking Giveaway
At Cushe, we are all about the holiday spirit. So we put together a short list of items that would compliment a Cushe Life – whether it is an urban or rural adventure you seek. If you don’t know what to ask for this holiday, anything on this list would be a great place to start…

1. Osprey Stratos 24 Pack
You need something to hold the stuff on the rest of your list, right? Osprey bags are rugged, lightweight, and feature plenty of pockets for a good volume to organization level. Not a lot of us will have use for a single ice axe attachment, but we have faith you’ll be creative in its use. ($99.00)

2. Merrell Mid-Layers
Super comfortable for anything from work outs to coffee runs as well as ideal for layering when the weather gets all weird on you. We dig the Tazlina Hoody for the ladies and the Cairn Hoody for dudes. ($89.00 - $99.00)

3. Aqua Vessel Ultra Lite Tritan Filtration Bottle
With the amount of water we’re all supposed to drink, it’s always a good idea to have a bottle by your side. This model from Eco Vessel has a plant based filtration system attached to the straw top… which means every sip of water gets cleaned on its way to your mouth. We can’t help you clean what comes out of your mouth, but we can help clean what’s going in. ($24.95)

4. Diana F+ Camera
We think one of the most important things in living a Cushe Life is making memories by doing what you love. It’s always a good idea to have a camera nearby to document the times and the people of your life. Digital is easy, but film in a plastic 1960’s designed camera has flavor. Embrace the variety of results caused by this perfectly imperfect beauty that inspired apps like Instagram. ($89.00)

5. Klipsch Image S5i Headphones
Your Cushe Life has to have a soundtrack, and these are great in-ear headphones to plug into your favorite iDevice and enjoy. Klipsch makes a great sounding product and the durability of the S5i’s is an added bonus. A great upgrade over the stock headphones that come with any music device. ($129.99)

6. Sun Bum SPF 30+ Sunscreen
Hey, there is a reason we support the Slater Brother’s Invitational and the World Skin Cancer Foundation each year. Protect your skin with this oil-free, Paraben-free, Vitamin E enriched sunscreen. And thank the sweet monkey logo for helping protect your hide. ($14.99)

7. The Cushe Shoes You Don’t Have
Wait, what? You need new pair of Cushes? How could we forget! This list wouldn’t be complete without your new favorite shoes. While we love all of our styles equally, we recommend the Surf Slipper Chuka for guys and the Wildtrip WP for gals. Both are Cushe takes on classic styles. ($90.00 - $160.00)

What’s in your Cushe Life holiday pack this year? Share it with us on Facebook and Twitter – as always, we love to hear from ya!
Fri, 02 Dec 2011 07:53:00 GMT ISA and Slater Brother's Recap
We just had an amazing October featuring two great pro surf events the Cushe team was proud to be a part of. Let’s recap, shall we?

The ISA World Masters in El Salvador bounced back from a bout of terrible weather to deliver the goods. Team USA, who made their debut in the ISA World Masters, did it up in style and took the gold! We’d call that a pretty successful start. Not only did they win the team trophy, but the USA had some stellar individual performances by Tom Curren, Jim Hogan, Allen Sarlo and Alissa Cairns as well.

Puerto Rico and Cushe team member Gustavo Betancourt had a solid showing too, taking the copper and 4th place! All in all, a great tournament with top kick competition. Hats off to all the riders and champions from the 2011 ISA World Master Surfing Championship.

Bonus – Cushe got to leave its mark on one of the most legendary surf spots in the world, Punta Roca! Check out the amazing graffiti mural in the picture below.

After the ISA's, we dropped in on Cocoa Beach, Florida, to set up shop at the Slater Brother’s Invitational. This event doesn’t just provide some great entertainment; the proceeds benefit the World Skin Cancer Foundation, so it was awesome to be in the company of our friends at Volcom, Oakley, Quiksilver and Go Pro supporting the cause.

Mitch “All the way from the UK” Corbett and Nolan Tyler were both representing for Cushe, and both had great showings. Mitch went on to the quarters in the longboard, while Nolan matched him and made it to the quarters in the shortboard. We’re definitely looking forward to the 2012 Slater Brother’s Invitational!

Tue, 08 Nov 2011 02:32:00 GMT Cushe Hits the Road to Waves
October may not seem like a big surf month if you don’t live near a coast, but trust us, it is. Cushe is a proud sponsor of two events on the waves this month – the ISA World Masters and the Slater Brother’s Invitational.

The ISA World Masters Surfing Championship is scheduled to start October 18th at Punta Roca El Salvador. The start of the event was postponed from the 16th due to the monster storms that hit El Salvador with several days of torrential rain. The ISA and the teams involved are committed to helping out the town of La Libertad, as Mauricio Funes, President of El Salvador, declared a State of Emergency.

This is a seriously stacked event with talent streaming in from all over the globe. In fact, a record 124 competitors signed up before registration closed. Our own sales rep, Gustavo Bentancourt (pictured below), will be representing Team Puerto Rico! We’ll be supporting Gus, Team USA, and hoping for better weather not just for the comp, but for El Salvador as well. You can check the live stream and catch all the action as soon as the event kicks off here.

Now onto the famed Slater Brother’s Invitational. This is our second year sponsoring this great event, which takes place October 28th – 30th in sunny Cocoa Beach, Florida. The Slater Brother’s don’t just put together a kick-ass competition; they raise awareness and money for the World Skin Cancer Foundation. That’s all kinds of cool we at Cushe are proud to be a part of. We’re bringing in our very own Team Cushe rockstar Mitch Corbett for the event, so if you are anywhere near Cocoa at the end of this month, don’t miss this.

Can’t make it to Cocoa? Don’t sweat it – you can tune in to a live webcast and see Kelly, Skippy, Sean, and all the competitors once the event starts. We’ll be hanging out taking some photos for your ocular pleasure as well, so stop by and see us!

Mon, 17 Oct 2011 06:23:00 GMT Eric McCabe Interview Part 2
We continue our interview with Eric McCabe - pro disc golfer and newest member of team Cushe. The first part of our interview had Eric chatting about his game today, which included a list of his favorite courses for all you disc golfers out there looking for a challenge and some scenery. So catch up on that if you haven't already. Part two takes us through McCabe's turn from amature to pro.

Cushe: You started playing disc golf back in 1995 – how did you make the transition from amateur to pro? Was going pro always a goal?
EM: I started in 95 and turned pro in 2000 after winning the Amateur division at the Kansas City Wide Open. Turning Pro was always a goal of mine, I always enjoyed watching the Pros play at my local tournaments and knew one day I’d be competing against them.

Cushe: Did you have anyone coach you, or take you under their wing when you first got started?
EM: I did, I looked up to a lot of people, including, "Crazy" John Brooks, Bruce Hudson, Kevin Babbit etc… but most of my influence was from LaRon "The Who Man" Harris. I always looked up to LaRon's game and he definitely inspired me. I pretty much owe all my success to him, he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of the tour.

Cushe: Nice. It sounds like you had access to a great community of pro supporters to get you started. What was the most difficult aspect of the sport when you were first starting off?
EM: Learning control and disc selection was definitely the most difficult aspect starting out. But this didn't stop me from getting to the field and working on it day in and day out.

Cushe: Learn by doing – that’s definitely our style too. How has the landscape of Disc Golf as a sport changed since you started playing?
EM: The plastic has come a long way since I first started playing. Disc technology has been amazing in the last 10 year of the sport. Discs fly twice as far as they used to making courses easier and easier. Newer courses adjust for that now and typically have longer holes and are much more difficult. Most of our National Tour Events have courses with a par of anywhere between 58 and 65.

Cushe: How did you get hooked on the game? What made you decide to give Disc Golf a try?
EM: I was in High School, and grew up in the small town of Emporia KS, 35,000 people. I lived about two blocks from Jones Park which at the time had 1 18 hole Disc Golf Course, so myself and a couple friends gave it a try and were hooked immediately.

Cushe: That love at first try thing is definitely a sign you’ve found something you’ll be doing the rest of your life. If you could go back to your early days and give yourself one piece of advice – what would that be?
EM: To be patient, and know that like Ball Golf, Disc Golf is 80% mental!

Cushe: Solid advice. We assume the other 20% is a secret sauce of skill, natural talent, and 7 herbs and spices. Thanks for hanging with us, and giving us a little background on your story so far. We wish you all the best for the rest of the year and into next season! You definitely live the Cushe Life.
EM: Thanks!
Thu, 29 Sep 2011 15:54:00 GMT Eric McCabe Interview Part 1
Say hey to Eric McCabe, pro disc golfer and latest addition to the Cushe team. Eric turned pro in 2000, and since then he’s nabbed an impressive collection of titles including 2010 World Champion. We caught up with Eric fresh off his run at the 2011 World Championships – here is part one of our two part interview with Eric McCabe.

Cushe: First off – congratulations on placing 6th at the recent PDGA World Championships. Tell us about the competition there.
EM: Thanks! The competition is getting stronger and stronger every year. This year's World Championships was held in sunny California (Monterey Bay). The Worlds haven't in Cali for 30 year, since the first ever Pro Worlds in Irvine California in 1982. We had 453 competitors, which was the most in history! Needless to say, the competition was tougher than ever.

Cushe: Whoa! 453 competitors is no joke. How do you prepare for a major event like that?
EM: For any Major event I spend a lot of time working on my putt. This is the most important aspect of the game, in my opinion. Typically I try and show up at least a week in advance, and try and get 3 to 4 rounds on all the courses being played. After that, I usually go back and work on trouble holes, and putt at least 45 minutes in the morning and the evening.

Cushe: That’s a serious schedule. Does your practice philosophy change for events outside of the Majors?
EM: Not really. Outside a Major my practice philosophy and schedule is pretty much the same as a Major event.

Cushe: We imagine like any athlete, you put gear through its paces – how do you choose the equipment you use?
EM: This is true, as a disc golfer probably the most important piece of equipment, besides my golf discs of course, would be a good pair of shoes. It was an easy decision for me to choose Cushe shoes. It is essential to have waterproof shoes with a good tread, and the Xsige WP is perfect for disc golfers, the tread has a unique "foot print" style that is super grippy on all tee-pads, from concrete to natural.
Cushe: We’re blushing over here! We love the kudos, but even more we love that you found a place for the Xsige in your game.

Cushe: Do you have any favorite courses, and what makes them special?
EM: I do have a list of favorite courses, my top 5 are:
1.) Milo McIver - Estacada, OR - This is a beautiful course just outside Portland OR, home of the Beaver State Fling National Tour Event. The course has pretty much every typo of shot and is one of the fairest courses I've played.
2.) DeLaveaga - Santa Cruz, CA - Wide variety of shots, Every hole is a signature hole, with the 27th hole 'top of the world' having the most scenic view on a disc golf course.
3.) Blue Ribbon Pines -Twin Cities, MN - A well manicured course on a sod farm. Hole four is the most picturesque hole I've ever seen. It’s a 400+ foot hole with 80 foot pine trees lining the fairway.
4.) Maple Hill - Leicester, MA - Just outside Boston MA, and home of the Vibram Open National Tour. The course is beautiful and championship caliber in every way with a great use of elevation, ponds, and wooded areas.
5.) Water Works - Kansas City, MO - A unique course with tons of elevation on pretty much every hole. Hole one has a great view of downtown KC.

Cushe: Sounds like we need to schedule a cross country road trip. As a professional, where do you see the sport going?
EM: Every year the sport is getting bigger and bigger. We now have close to 50,000 Professional Disc Golf Association or PDGA members. The Pro purse is expanding from year to year. All we're missing is that corporate sponsor to step up and help us out and we'll be on our way.

Cushe: What’s coming up for you over the remainder of 2011?
EM: The remainder of 2011 is pretty easy for me. I've been hanging out in Santa Cruz since Worlds ended and I plan on playing the final Major of the year in Augusta, GA later this month. After that I’ll probably head back to Cali and enjoy my winter.
Cushe: That sounds like a pretty good way to spend the rest of the year to us!

Check back later this month for part two of our interview with pro disc golfer and newest Cushe team member, Eric McCabe. Now go practice!

Thu, 15 Sep 2011 19:09:00 GMT Twitter Giveaway
Want to win a pair of Cushes? Good luck everyone!

U.S. residents only.
Wed, 24 Aug 2011 09:27:00 GMT Beat the Heat
Hopefully you are finding a way to stay cool during the summer heat this year. It’s definitely been on the warmer side to say the least so far. While heading to the nearest large body of water is always our number one choice here at Cushe, not everyone has that luxury – or even the time.

So we got to thinkin’, if we were landlocked, how would we cool out? Getting in front of the AC unit doesn’t count, that might keep you cool, but the entertainment factor is just above filling out tax forms. We have to have a little fun, so here are a few of our favorite things when it comes to summer fun.

The Slip N’ Slide. A total classic and occasionally dangerous depending on the surface underneath the thin vinyl slide. Getting a good sprint going before launching yourself down the yellow runway was always a point of pride. Bonus points if you have access to Crocodile Mile. It was basically Slip N’ Slide, but green.

Water guns. For most people, water guns were the first arms race of our lives. Once the first person on the block got a Super Soaker, you needed one, only bigger so as to deter the others from attacking you. I know what you are saying – running around and having a squirt gun fight with my adult friends is just going to make me hot. And that is exactly why you fill the water guns with ice water. Duh.

Water balloons. First off, no, these do not belong with water guns. A balloon fight is its own animal and it usually breaks out with someone catching an unexpected water balloon to the back. Once the first balloon is thrown, you must know that this battle won’t end until everyone is soaked. Or someone gets the hose out and puts the nozzle on Jet. This is a good thing though, since the point is to cool down. Take it like a champ… and retaliate.

The kiddie pool. This isn’t the same low rent action you might remember from back in the day. You can get some sweet digs that will fit you and a few friends. This is actually a two part-er, because it’s absolutely essential that you pair this with a cooler filled with beverages. Kind of an unwritten rule though for dudes – no Speedos in the little pools.

There are plenty more options and many probably don’t involve water… though we can’t really see the point of that. Got a favorite way to enjoy the summer heat? Share it with us on Facebook and Twitter.
Wed, 03 Aug 2011 09:52:00 GMT National Flip Flop Day
Did you know that June 17th (that’s tomorrow) is National Flip Flop Day? Well now you do. NFFD is legit too… and not just because we love flip flops. It celebrates the coming of the Summer Solstice (which is June 21st this year) and raises awareness for Camp Sunshine, a year-round facility where kids with life-threatening illnesses can go have a little fun. Very cool.

Stand by, we’re about to drop some history on ya.

The flip flop design takes its cues from the Japanese zori, which was popularized in the Western world when soldiers returned home from the Pacific post WWII. The modern flip flop was born in the 1950’s in New Zealand, or in the 1940’s in Hong Kong; depending on whose side of the story you are on.

At Cushe, we’re not into taking sides on this. We just know flip flops are great warm weather kicks and ours have the fresh style you’d expect from any of our designs. So wear your flip flops proudly on June 17th and party with us on Twitter for a chance to win one of 5 pairs of Cushe flip flops that are up for grabs! As always, share your flip flop love with us on Facebook.

We said flip flop like 2 billion times in that last bit... and we're not sorry for it.

Laters!
Thu, 16 Jun 2011 08:02:00 GMT Sasquatch! 2011 Wrap Up
Wow. Despite the cold, the athletes were pulling some hotness by drop ping in from either the 25’ or 32’ platforms.

We were on site showing off some of next year’s Cushe designs, passing out some stickers and hats and cheering o n our fellow brave winter weather challengers. Thinking
At Cushe, we've been developing produc t now for over 5 years. With the footware manufacturing process, the shipping and delivery of product and flying all over the world to get our shoes in front of the right people; we've racked up our fair share of carbon guilt.

This has always weighed heavy on our shoulders and although all these aspects are critical in building up a new company, we felt it was about time we came up with a range of products that allowed us to tread a much lighter environmental path. The detrimental effect that footwear companies have on the environment is a serious subject but with this refreshed way of thinking, we thought we could have a bit of fun with it too. At the start of this process, we thought it would be a fairly simple task to find a blueprint for creating environmentally friendly footwear, but were amazed to find that no matter how hard we looked, it simply wasn’t there. The process that followed was as educational as it was challenging.

Conscious of our background and our way of doing things, the idea was to flip the lid on the way we manufacture and package our shoes from start to finish. We wanted to prove that as a footwear company, we could still make fresh, exciting product that was simple, environmentally conscious and at an affordable price.

The resulting range we came up with Contains Low Impact Materials And Thinking Environmentally (C.L.I.M.A.T.E), which represents a very small line that is isolated from the rest of our range, but hugely significant in terms of the difference it will make to the way we develop and manufacture Cushe product for the future.

Want to find out more about C.L.I.M.A.T.E.?

Packaging

What goes in to our C.L.I.M.A.T.E. shoes?

5 Steps - From Shucoon to Shoes!

Cushe Founder Martin Dean discusses Cushe C.L.I.M.A.T.E.

Tue, 22 Feb 2011 15:05:00 GMT Cushe at the Downtown Throwdown
Traverse City Michigan is normally known as the cherry capital of the universe. Well, maybe not the universe, but they have a lot of cherries and cherry related things – including a Cherry Festival. On February 19th however, Traverse City is going to be the capital of awesome when the Downtown Throwdown happens during the Winter Wow Fest.

We’ll be hanging out in downtown TC (that's Traverse City for you non-locals) all day at the event, checking out the competitors from pee-wee to pro busting out their best tricks on two sticks… It was all over by the end of Saturday, but now that we're back to work on Monday, it's really all over. Tim Curran led team Hurley to victory and busted out the highest single-wave score of 9.77. Out of 10. Y'know, just .23 away from perfect... no big deal. Coming in second in the final was last years champ Chris Waring, followed by Micah Byrne and Tanner Gudauskas in third and forth place. What's next for Curran? Dude says he wants to hit more events and eventually get back in the US Open. Hells YES.

Overall, a great couple days that Cushe was proud to be a part of. I can’t imagine they're too comfortable though, since both teams Dragon and Buell Wetsuits are right behind Hurley with 13 points each. To make day two even more awesome, five other teams are just behind them with 12 points each. I think Saturday is gonna be a banger with the field this tight.

Defending champ Chris Waring, who is second place team Dragon’s top performer, tore it up in rounds one and two by advancing through both heats.

Tune in for Saturday’s action LIVE on the Katin website and see who comes out on top.

Sat, 08 Jan 2011 03:28:00 GMT Cushe at the Katin Pro-Am
Going back to Cali, Cali, Cali…. We hope your 2010 has been packed with good times so far, but while summer is technically on the wind-down, there is still an event that is a must-attend occasion. At Cushe, we get pretty stoked about the combination of beach time, surfing and music. To us, they go together like an ice-cold beverage and a hammock; otherwise known as the perfect marriage. It almost makes us want to sing a remixed version of "Favorite Things"...

People in board shorts and band members singing,
Sand below our feet and cool people mingling,
Surfboards in pipelines and bonfire flings,
These are a few of my favorite things!

You sang it out loud didn’t you?
Well memorize that catchy jingle so you can belt it out at the 2010 Slater Brother’s Invitational. Not only is it a super rad (Aquabats anyone?) event, but also there will be free skin screenings provided by the World Skin Cancer Foundation. (Free skin screenings Sat. 9-1 and Sun. 11-1) As you know, Cushe is all for fun in the sun; but let’s be safe out there yeah?

We will be in Cocoa Beach, FL for this awesome event that features some of the world’s best surfers including C.J. and Damien Hobgood, Rob Machado, Shea Lopez and 9-time ASP World Champion, Kelly Slater. Warming the crowd up was Seb Kern, who played a quality old skool Drum n bass set, leaving the crowd pumped and waiting for more from the headlinners, Urban Knights. These guys hit the stage, took stock and conquered, with some brainshaking dubstep and breaks. Sonically awesome, visually incredible, the Urban Knights were the guardians of all thats sacred and revered about the BRITS.

The action from the following day

Skier Cross and snowboard halfpipe were on the menu today. We had a particular interest as Becky was competiting in the finals of the skier cross finals and i'm very pleased to announce that Becky was once again on the podium, coming in 3rd after a crash halfway up the slope with the 4th place competitor. Nice one Becky!!!

In the snowboarding halfpipe, historically the blue ribbon event with the big guns all coming out to play, we we're treated to some explosive action in all catagories. In the womens, Animal rider and GB star Kate Foster took gold and in the mens, young buck, Jamie Nicholls took the honours with a trick he's learnt in practice that day.

All in all another corker of a day and muchos fun had by all.

More from day 4 tomorrow.
Thu, 25 Mar 2010 20:03:00 GMT Day 2 at the BRITS - The Cushe Huck Fest
Wowzers, that's the second day done with and what an eyeful we got. Snowboard Big Air and Freeski Slopestyle was on the menu today and neither disappointed. Under difficult conditions, both skiers and snowboarders pulled it out of the bag and kicked the knuckles out of the park. Surprises in both and a serious sight for sore eyes, all we're terribly impressive and made me feel inadequate and inspired in equal amounts. Big Up!!!!

Better, in fact, far better was what happened in the Apres area tonight! The Cushe Huckfest went off in the most incredible fashion. It basically was 'Sick to power of Rad'. Nuff said. Skiers and snowboarders, literally threw themselves into the Cushe Landing making for one of the most exciting events at the BRITS. The crowd cheerd, jeered, screamed and hollered at the top of their lungs pushing the competitors that little bit further to compete for the Cushe cash prizes. We gave out prizes for best back flip, best front flip, best double and finally, best freestyle. In total we handed out 500CHF's and those guys get a few extra beers tonight, my goodness, they deserve it. Kudos to all! Our eyes are in debt to you.

Wed, 24 Mar 2010 17:38:00 GMT 1st day at the Brits 2010
That's it then, first day at the BRITS done and dusted and what a day it was too!

It started off a little cloudy at the summit and there weren't huge hopes for the day of events to come, but didn't it turn out nice!!!!!!

I started off the day talking to our skier, Becky Hammond at the bottom of the chair lift about her day to come and she seemed pretty confident about a blue sky day. Today was the turn of the skiers in the halfpipe and the snowboarders on the snowboarder cross course. Obviously, our big motivation for the day was giving Becky a big cheer on the way down the halfpipe and cheer we did. I'm very pleased to annouce that our cheers weren't unheard. Becky proudly stood 3rd on the the podium for the main competition, so big congrats to her.

Day 2 tomorrow; Snowboard Halfpipe, Cushe Huckfest and Cushe party. Stay tuned for the daily update.

All the best from the slopes!!!
Sun, 21 Mar 2010 16:57:00 GMT 1 week to go until Cushe hits the BRITS
One more week to go now until Cushe hits the slopes at the BRITS (British Freeski and Snowboard Championships) and to say we're excited is an understatement.

We've planned more that ever this year, what with the Cushe Airbag in situ again and new for 2010 we're hosting Cushe 'Huck Fest', which is Cushe's very own Airbag contest that promises to be a banger of an evening with very special prizes. We're also partnering up with 'Urban Knights' for an evening of dubstep and breaks just to keep all you snow folk entertained. We'll be doing daily blog updates too with video's coming direclty from the event, hosting on the spot competitions and if you'll be in Laax, look out for us on location where we'll be shooting for next years advertising campaigns.

We're itching to get over there now, so are constantly clock watching. Everybody is in the same situation now and with legislation dictating change and more importantly, the ethical codes that we want to aspire to, the impact it’s having on day to day business is becoming increasingly prevalent.

How is becoming more environmentally thinking effecting Cushe?
When we started Cushe, the priority was to get the brand off the ground and establish ourselves in the market place. Now, with a secure future in place, our priority has changed to producing more environmentally friendly product with less of an impact on the environment. Compared to a lot of our competitors, Cushe is in a very fortunate position in the regard that we are still a very young company, only 5 years old so it’s a lot easier for us to be thinking about the environment and taking the right steps to being more conscious.

What were the steps you took in becoming more conscious of the environment?
When we first started thinking about doing things more environmentally, we initially thought that we wouldn’t be the first and it would be a relatively easy process. We assumed that we’d be able to learn from others, but the more we looked into it, the more questions it threw up. There didn’t appear to be any real answers, no right or wrong ways to do things and the more this happened, the more we felt that we wanted to just strip the manufacture of product down to its bear bones, effectively, shoemaking in its purest form. Tackling the problem in this way actually created a blueprint to learn from and then filter it into the main range for everything we do for the future.

What are you doing to make Cushe more environmentally sound?
As a company, we don’t claim to have all the answers, but we do know that we could be doing things a little better. As a result of this new way of thinking, we wanted to create a series of products that Contained Low Impact Materials And Thinking Environmentally and this is how the C.L.I.M.A.T.E label came to be. It represents a small collection of shoes that stands apart from the rest of the range that is our effort to be more environmentally conscious. It’s an area that we wanted to keep protected from the rest of the line and an area that allows us to experiment more to see if we can find ways to create more eco and environmentally friendly footwear.

Lets talk about the Shucoon…
The first product we developed under the new CLIMATE label was a project provisionally entitled ‘Cocoon’. The idea behind it was that we wanted to protect this collection and almost put it in its own little bubble. To make it a bit more fun we actually decided to make the thing look like a cocoon, with the two outsoles fitting together, held together with a recycled rubber wristband. It’s a very simple model and serves a couple of purposes; it cost effective, it’s got a cheap retail ticket and more importantly, it makes environmental fun.

In time ‘Cocoon’ turned into ‘Shucoon’ and rest is history…

What about the future?
Well now we’ve got our blueprint in place, we’ll be rolling it out across the range and be making everything we do a little more environmentally. It’s a truly exciting future for us because we have a personal interest in making this area success. I want to be doing things a little better and believe that this first step with the most significant.
Wed, 24 Feb 2010 16:14:00 GMT C.L.I.M.A.T.E. The competition took place at Buttermilk in the X Games Superpipe. I was really excited to compete against some big names and put my training so far into practice.

The pipe was shaped really nice, but with only 30 minutes practice there was only time for a run of straight airs and then one practice of my competition run.

We had 2 runs in the semi-finals with only the top 5 advancing to the super final out of 20 girls. I had two, good clean runs; mute grab, alley opp mute, alley opp, safety grab, japan grab, right 5, left 5, right 3. i was really pleased with my run, but then had to play a waiting game for a few hours until they realised the results.

I qualified in 4th place for the super final, i couldn't believe it, i was super stoked. The final went well and although i didn't quite get my left 5, which made me stickw ith 4th place. I'm really happy with the result and never dreamed i'd have a top 4 placement in a US event.

I'm really looking forward now to the rest of the season and my last 2 weeks training in Aspen, before competing in the European events."

Becky, we're super stoked for you too, amazing stuff!!!

Sun, 14 Feb 2010 22:08:00 GMT Cushe Footwear opens the doors of its first concept store - Globally!!!
STOP PRESS: CUSHE FOOTWEAR OPENS THE DOORS OF ITS FIRST CONCEPT STORE

The TriNoma shopping mall in the Quezon City, Manila, is the site of the very first Cushe concept store. Ettinger's Team Hurley, last years reigning Team Challenge, claimed the runner up position.

The historic Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Speciality Event has a unique camaraderie-driven team-based format, with 20 four-man teams competing in an open-draw format. Team results were determind by the placement of individual surfers who received points in each heat (4 points for 1st, 3 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd and 1 point for 4th place). More than $28,500 in cash and prizes was awarded.

Waring battled back to claim his first Katin Pro/Am Team Challenge victory after Ettinger posted the event's only perfect 10-point ride with a lengthy barrel into the pier. Waring found a barrel of his own to earn a 9.53 out of 10 and quickly followed up with a 6.50 to overtake the goofy footer, holding on for the win despite a valiant effort by Ettinger to bounce back.

"I just can't believe it," Waring said. "i don't even know what to think right now. Brad (Ettinger) started off with that 10, so to come back and win is amazing. This is a special event for Huntington Beach, and it has such a great history. Now my name is going to be up there with all the great surfers who have won this event in the past."

In addition to taking out the personal victory, Waring's standout performance carried Team Reef to victory over last year's winner, Team Hurley, who finished 2nd this year.

"i'm stoked that my team was able to win," Waring said. After waking up and looking out my window to the sight of thundering surf and a beautiful blue sky on Huntington Beach, the stage was set for out first foray into the a truly core and international surf event.

To say the conditions we're challenging is an understatement, 6-8ft waves with a current so strong it probably pulled the Island of Catalina a little closer to mainland California and the vicious pylons underneath the pier looming and ready to chew up anyone who was unfortunate to stray into its jaws. A Cushe team of 4 valiant individuals, Jimmy Rotherham, Tom Rezvan, Bobby Okvist and Roberto Palomo stood up to be counted and paddled out to take their place in the line up for their respective heats...

This occasion though saw the conditions get the better of each of our guys and one by one, even after their best att empts to tame the swell, we're picked off and sent back to the shore empty handed.

It was touch luck for us, but in this, our first foray into a straight up, core surf event, we weren't expecting a win and in true Cushe fashion, that was never the intention. Our team was out there to take part and have some fun, and I think I can speak for all of them and say that we achieved that.

Thanks to one and all of you guys, you did us proud...

Mon, 11 Jan 2010 15:07:00 GMT Win This Surfboard To celebrate our involvement in the Katin PRO/AM, Cushe is giving you the chance to win your very own surfboard. Nothing left to chance, done and dusted? Well that was the feeling I had this morning at about 11:30am, enjoying being part of the competition and finally settling in to some good ole' surfing action after months of planning. Then, all of a sudden, my phone rings and the conversation that ensues, throws everything back into the frying pan. Our surfer, who is due to ride in two rounds time can't surf due to an injury he picked up earlier in the day practicing to compete with us...

What does one do? Well, turn to the closest people to you and plead that they can help of course. I turn to my left, Jimmy Rotherman, but I can't ask him to ride again, he's exhausted after his round, I turn to my left and who is stood their, Cushe's Central American distributor, Roberto Palomo. Now, Roberto landed about 12 hours ago at LAX, so the reality is, he's only had about 5 hours sleep after travelling from El Salvador, he's also up here to experience the event and support his El Salvadorian brother, Jimmy.

Ciaran: "So, Roberto, what are you like in the water"

Roberto: "Yeah, I'm OK, I surf a lot down in Central America, its nice down there 80 degrees, no wetsuits, warm water..."

C: "How do you fancy riding for team Cushe in round 17?"

R: "Erm, yeah OK, sounds like fun"

C: "Great you're really helping us out and think of the story when you get home, grab a wetsuit and board and get going....oh and you'll be competing against the 3 times world champion and 2 times Katin PRO/AM winner Tom Curren"

R: "Thanks Ciaran!!!!!"

C: "That's that then..."

In paddles Roberto and huge Props to him, he went out there and he competed. Not only did he compete, he also put his body on the line and got totally hammered by a 9ft wave that must have felt like a house falling down on him. Roberto didn't win, and he didn't challenge Tom Curren, but he did take part and he was a contender and to top it all off, as he's walking out of the water a little kid came up to him and asked him for his was priceless.

Congratulations Roberto, for competition on the same level as Tom Curren, for helping us out of a tight spot, for taking part of an international surf competition and for not hesitating and just going for it. A credit to the team and for Cushe Footwear.
Fri, 08 Jan 2010 12:04:00 GMT Katin PRO/AM Surf Championships at Huntington Beach, Cali On Thursday Jan 14th and Friday Jan 15th, Huntington Beach, California, will be hosting the Katin PRO/AM.
